The Usual Suspects

Suspect #1 - Al
Suspect #2 - Sonny

They look innocent enough don't they? With those big brown eyes and sweet expressions.  Sure, that's what they want you to think. They want you to think that they were two innocent geldings grazing on a warm February day. You know - just enjoying the unexpected warm weather. They want you to believe they are just as innocent as can be.
Don't believe them - this daring duo is as far from innocent as any horse can be. Left unsupervised
for a few hours while their unsuspecting owner is out working - so she can afford the best feed and best care - they decide to reek havoc with the life an innocent tank heater. This poor tank heater, who was only doing it's job of keeping the water in the tank from freezing during the cold weather, was ripped out of the tank and brutally destroyed by one or possibly both of our suspects. That's right it was found laying yards away from the tank, unplugged and ripped apart.
The suspects were, of course, questioned about what had occurred concerning the tank heater, but nobody was talking. There was no evidence to say the tank heater was removed from the water by one of suspects and then dragged across the pasture  with intentions of destroying it. Some feel that perhaps it could have been an accident - that maybe one of suspects had tripped on the cord and that the heater was not intentionally drop kicked across the pasture. Well this seasoned horse owner is not buying that scenario. Here is what I think happened - it's winter, the boys are a little bored and things are too quiet for them, so why not pull the heater out of the tank and play soccer with it? It wasn't an accident at all - they both knew what they were doing and did it without any concern for the problems it would cause.  Not caring about the trip that had to be made to local farm store to purchase a new tank heater or the fact that this far into winter they might be out of stock. It didn't matter to them because they are horses and for them life is all about amusing themselves. They have no concern for the consequences of their actions. I bet if they had to make a trip to farm store they... oh who am I kidding - if they had gone they would have bought bags of feed and who knows what else and maxed out the credit card.
The suspects are still not talking, even though they were sent to their stalls. I guess there isn't much to do at this point, but I will be keeping my eye on them from here on out - in fact I'm thinking surveillance equipment.
